Here is a Russian phrase meaning to "agree", "to approve of what has
been
said or done" - "kivnut" golovoj' (literally to nod one's head). In
German
they have it like this - "mit dem Kopf nicken". In fact you say "yes",
"OK"
when you give a nod. On the other hand, when you shake your head you
say
"no", "I disapprove/disagree". In Russian "kachat'/kachnut' golovoj".In
German - "den Kopf shuetteln".
Parts of human body are very frequents guests in phraseology. Their
meaning
may be though different in different languages. For example, if a Bulgarian
nods (his head) he says "no" and when he shakes his head he means "yes".
As for the type of phrases we should focus on, I insist on defining
our
"idioms". Should they be words or phrases? Should they be 100 percent
idiomatic? etc, etc.
Best wishes,
Leo
