Subject: Questions on some idioms
Hello,
My name is Doris Shih, I
am from Taiwan, currently a doctoral
student in Department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction
at Texas
A&M University. My emphasis lies in educational technology. Both
Eva and
Karen are my classmates in one of the on-line courses. I am very
happy to join Eva's LINGO-L listserv. I am excited and ready to learn
idioms of all languages!
Well, I am not to share any
idioms yet, but to ask a few in this
message. Presently, I am taking an teaching adult ESL course,
and I came
across one article "Teaching idioms in adult ESL classes" in _The Adult
Basic Education TESOL Handbook_. It explained that newspaper
and magazine
articles are filled with idioms, such as the ones below (in capital
letters). Can someone (Eva, Karen or any of you) maybe help to give
a
background of these? Thanks!!
